The economic cost of violence against women

Nata Duvvury is Director, Centre for Global Women’s Studies at the National University of Ireland, Galway. Dr. Nata Duvvury is an international development expert working on issues of gender, development and empowerment.

She is internationally known for leading the research agenda on costs of violence against women (VWA). She was the lead author for a recent World Bank Discussion Paper titled Intimate Partner Violence: Economic Costs and Implications for Growth and Development. This policy paper has influenced the evolving global research agenda on economic and societal impacts of VAW. Dr. Duvvury is currently leading a four-year multi-country study on social and economic costs of violence against women and girls with funding from the UK’s Department For International Development (DFID).
